Smoke extraction fan tests to take place at Matinkylä and Finnoo weeks 35–37

Smoke extraction fans will be tested at the Matinkylä and Finnoo metro stations and on the rail sections and the shafts (Tiistilä shaft at the address Suomenlahdentie 15 and the Suomenlahdentie shaft at the address Suomenlahdentie 22) between them at night between 30 August and 19 September (weeks 35–37). During the testing, a whirring sound may be heard in the vicinity from time to time. The smoke extraction fan tests will be carried out at night between 11:45 pm and 5 am when the metro is not running. The plan is to use the smoke extraction fans at the lowest power possible to avoid making noise. Between 13 and 19 September (week 37), there will also be noise resulting from fire testing at the Matinkylä metro station; the fire alarm will sound near the bicycle parking area at the eastern entrance, under the Suomenlahdentie bridge.

Smoke extraction fans are used in case of fire to blow smoke away from the underground facilities along fire-compartmented routes into the outside air. There are smoke extraction fans in the metro line’s vertical shafts and at the metro stations’ eastern and western ends. The testing of smoke extraction fans is related to the testing of the West Metro’s Matinkylä–Kivenlahti section. The functionality of the systems is also always tested at the adjacent station, i.e. in Finnoo’s
case, testing will also take place on the systems of the already operating metro station at Matinkylä. All in all, 15 smoke extraction fans have been installed on the Matinkylä–Kivenlahti section. There are 32 smoke extraction fans on the Ruoholahti–Matinkylä section.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the testing.
